Proofreading is much different than editing.  It is focused on spelling and grammar vs. the content itself.   The most common proofreading errors are omitted commas, leaving off the letter “s” at the end of a word, using too many words (called “fluff”), and important paragraph breaks.

The sample below is what a document would look like if standard proofreader’s marks are inserted.  Granted, you would never see these marks in the final document.  This is simply a means to show you the types of items that can be found in a transcribed document.
